Re: North Carolina, Montana Ras. Polls (none / 0)

Both candidates tied against McCain in NY?

Color me suspicious of that one. Other than that, no surprises.

Re: North Carolina, Montana Ras. Polls (none / 0)

It shows Obama (as of today) is a better general election candidate.

Re: North Carolina, Montana Ras. Polls (none / 0)

Well, actually, no.  It shows Obama losing both New York and Florida, and Clinton winning both of them.  I don't think the other states that Obama wins and Clinton loses make up for those two electoral giants.

Now, if you're saying that the results in Florida and New York will change by November, well I suggest the results in other states will too.  You can't have it both ways.

Re: North Carolina, Montana Ras. Polls (none / 0)

That Marist poll is incorrectly cited. The poll said, "Obama/Clinton v. McCain/Rice" or "Clinton/Obama v. McCain/Rice." It posited a Rice VP slot for McCain. That's all.

That's false. (none / 0)

You are wrong here. The Marist poll ALSO polled match-ups with Rice as VP, but the numbers that are cited here are those of the straight-up match-up between the presidential candidates (without Rice or any other VP).

Check it out for yourself: http://www.maristpoll.marist.edu/nyspoll s/GV080409.htm

Re: North Carolina, Montana Ras. Polls (none / 0)

Do you know about "margins of error"? Clinton and Obama are both pretty much tied against McCain in NY. I find the poll dubious, probably an outlier, but shouldn't Clinton be doing better in her "home" state? I can imagine the howling and screaming here if Obama polled like that in Illinois.

As to Florida, again: MOE. She's tied with McCain. I don't think she can win it in the general, especially once her "good friend" Joe Lieberman moves there to campaign for McCain.

If you look at the electoral maps, Wisconsin does put Obama over 270 against McCain ( and I think he'll take New Hampshire and Michigan as well). She needs Florida (where, again, she's tied against McCain) just to lose by twenty EVs).

Re: North Carolina, Montana Ras. Polls (none / 0)

if Clinton won the nomination and the GOP feared that FL was in danger of going to Clinton, who thinks Crist would not be the VP choice? FL is going red IMO. Regardless of the nominee.

Re: North Carolina, Montana Ras. Polls (2.00 / 1)

If you guys think Obama will lose New York you are complete idiots.

Re: North Carolina, Montana Ras. Polls (none / 0)

Indeed there are no other polls out there suggesting that Obama could be vulnerable in NY.

BUT there is a consistent stream of polls that show him struggling in Massachusetts.

Because you say so?

See RCP's blog today about how an Obama vs. McCain matchup in Massachusetts will be a very close race.

Re: North Carolina, Montana Ras. Polls (none / 0)

I think the most interesting thing to consider when looking at state polls is whom can be helped at the lower level. For senate we all know Warner wins in VA regardless of nominee. Obama seems to help in CO, LA, MN, OR and AK. Clinton doesn't seem to clearly help any one senatorial race. What about at the house level? State congresional levels? Where do these candidates have their longest coat-tails?
